Biography

Vicki McKoy

Born in Albury, N.S.W. into a family who loved the great outdoors Vicki would help pack for the long awaited camping trips on weekends and annual holidays. With the love of the bush from an early age, the sketch book became her constant companion. From there, the bush evolved into more than just shades of the lead pencil, the wonderful world of colour emerged in the form of oil paints.

The last 2 years of high school was spent sneaking out of cooking class, to try and spend more time in the art class “Only painting what I wanted to paint, I was determined to develop my own style!”

Then the ‘serious’ side of life started. After building a home and raising a family on the Murray River township of Howlong NSW, the paint brush was again dusted off with earnest, producing many scenes from the Murray to the Mountains!

Vicki is a traditional Landscape artist. She has been painting in Oils for the past 25 years, and is predominately self-taught. She believes that working on location is a learning experience on its own, with the constant changing of colours and light sources, “it teachers you to work fast!” But sometimes this is not possible, and learning how to interpret a photo is an art in itself.

Vicki’s subjects are from everyday life, from that quite fishing spot on the Goulburn River, to the thunder of hooves on the high plains, every painting tells a story.

Vicki now has her own art studio in Howlong NSW and teaches others with a passion similar to her own, this in itself has been a learning experience.

Over the years Vicki has received many awards for her works, of which have been sold and hung throughout Australia and overseas.
